Padouk
Pterocarpus soyauxii
Vivid orange-red heartwood that matures to a deep, warm brown — a striking accent species.
About the species: Padouk
African Padouk is known for its intense colour and excellent durability. It is used for furniture, flooring, musical instruments and decorative work where its character is part of the design.
Colour varies and darkens with light exposure. We recommend sampling and a finish trial for colour-critical projects, and we can sort material for colour intensity where volume allows.
Typical applications
- Furniture
- Flooring
- Musical instruments
- Turnery
- Decorative accents
Working and finishing
Padouk works cleanly with sharp tooling. Its colour can bleed into light timbers during sanding, so keep abrasives and tooling separate from pale species.
